Samphire Hoe, Dover, Kent UK

A trained graphic designer, professional photographer and educator, Paul has worked mainly in a freelance capacity since 1975. During this time he has held a partnership in two photographic studios, and has produced work for the Dover Harbour Board, British Coal, Kent County Council, Canterbury City Council, Sericol, Camelot, and Alfa Romeo, to name just a few.

His photographic work in the field of aviation has resulted in Paul undertaking air to air photography with the Royal Air Force, and as a past photographer for Action Publishing Ltd has covered many assignments with the British armed forces. He was a photographer for the 50th Anniversary D-Day Commemorations.

Since 1990 Paul has lectured in photography and multimedia (teaching up to Degree level) at the Ashford School of Art & Design and the University of Kent at Canterbury. Paul is a Director of DigitalMasterclass Ltd, has exhibited extensively throughout the UK and on the continent, and is a founder member of ‘EYE2EYE’, a group of six photographers.

His other great passion of his life, is astronomy.  He is the founder and President of the South East Kent Astronomical Society, and has designed and built an observatory for his large telescope.  Details of which can be found here. Paul has also written a chapter about the construction of  his observatory for the book 'More Small Astronomical Observatories', edited by Sir Patrick Moore.

His astronomical photographs are regularly published in magazines (such as Popular Astronomy) and used in a number of astronomy-based books.

During 2005 Paul and his home-built observatory took part in a wry, tongue-in-cheek, Sky One television programme about what people get up to in their suburban gardens (even though he does not technically live in suburbia!).

.

Crew filming Catherine watering the garden for the introduction.

On a more personal note, Paul is long time married to Catherine and has a daughter, Claire.  They live in a village on the White Cliffs of Dover (in the UK), overlooking the English Channel.
